Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok is reportedly being used at high levels within the U.S. Government, potentially violating laws on conflicts of interest and risking sensitive data, according to anonymous sources.

The United States government, under Donald Trump’s administration, is reportedly employing the private artificial intelligence service Grok, developed by Elon Musk, within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a newly created agency aimed at optimizing public spending.

This situation has raised alarms among experts and privacy advocates, as it could violate laws prohibiting conflicts of interest and compromise sensitive information of millions of American citizens.

Anonymous sources consulted by Reuters revealed that Musk’s team at DOGE is using a customized version of the Grok chatbot to analyze and process government data more efficiently. Furthermore, officials from the Department of Homeland Security were reportedly encouraged to use Grok despite the service lacking official approval.

This practice exposes a potential misuse of public power to benefit Musk’s private interests, who maintains close ties with Trump and his international business deals, such as the recent multibillion-dollar agreement in Saudi Arabia for his company Starlink.

The deployment of Grok within the U.S. bureaucracy reflects a troubling trend of privatizing and commodifying essential public services. Allowing a private company linked to a billionaire entrepreneur to access and manage highly confidential data means the U.S. government is sacrificing established protections for secure information handling.

This situation also fuels criticism of budget cuts at the expense of transparency and technological sovereignty, while corporate interests are favored over collective well-being.
